Grammify draws the grammar of an English sentence: a Reed-Kellogg diagram, a dependency tree, the class of every word and the role of every phrase. Learn what each one shows, then build them yourself.
Free to read and practise. No account needed for the lessons.
Choose a word to trace it through the view below. The word’s analysis is read out after the view.
Point at a word, or tap it, to follow it through the diagram, the tree and the roles.

What you can do
Every sentence, seen from every side
Two ways of drawing a sentence, the vocabulary to name what they show, and exercises that grade you against the same analysis.
- Reed-Kellogg diagramsThe classic sentence diagram: subject and verb on the baseline, objects and complements beside them, every modifier on a slant beneath the word it describes.Explore
- Dependency treesEach word points to the word it depends on, and every link is named: 46 relations, from nsubj to advmod, each with its own reference entry.Explore
- Word classesAll 17 parts of speech and all 50 fine-grained tags, explained with examples and shown in colour, so a noun looks like a noun wherever you meet it.Explore
- The Grammar LabFive exercises: name each word's class and tag, mark the subject, predicate and objects by dragging or by matching, and build the dependency tree yourself.Explore
- An illustrated galleryChecked sentences with their diagrams, many with a picture. Signed in, filter them by their grammar: sentence type, clauses, verbals, voice, tense, aspect and mood.Explore
- A grammar courseForty lessons in ten groups, from subjects and verbs to compound-complex sentences. Every diagram comes with its dependency tree and a note on what each one shows.Explore
How it works
From reading a rule to seeing it work
- 1
Read
Short lessons explain one construction at a time, each example drawn as a diagram and as a tree, side by side.
- 2
See
Point at any word to follow it through both drawings: what it is, what it depends on, and which phrase it belongs to.
- 3
Practise
Every lesson ends in exercises on real sentences. The Lab checks your answers against the same parse the lessons draw, so practice never contradicts the lesson.
Who it is for
For students who want to understand, and teachers who explain
Students and lifelong learners
- Work through the lessons at your own pace, anonymously if you like.

- Join a class with a code or an invitation, and do its assignments in one place.
- Writers and readers: learn to see why a sentence works, not only that it does.
Teachers
- Run courses: a roster with email invitations, QR or manual attendance, and a grade book you can export to and import from Excel.
- Set assignments of sentences, questions or readings, with opening and due dates.
- Keep a private question bank, and correct an answer key after the fact: every answer is regraded.
- Add your own sentences, check their analysis, and use them in class.
